INTRODUCTION

Kimchi is like air to Koreans. The country eats the side dish with almost every single meal. The Korean Government has started a new campaign to promote kimchi around the world.

Discovery Channel partnered with us to produce a documentary exploring a local delicacy.

CHALLENGE

Our documentary needed to explore various aspects of kimchi, recognising that much of the world has limited familiarity with it. We designed the program to first inform viewers about the basics of kimchi before delving into its rich culture and history. Given its airing on the Discovery Channel, incorporating a scientific perspective was also important.

The challenge was to combine these different angles into an interesting and enjoyable viewing experience.

SOLUTION

We envisioned a program that was fast-paced and had a contemporary look, designed for today’s audience. We created an entertaining show by frequently switching segments. This approach resulted in a dynamic documentary that incorporated many fun sequences between its science and history discussions.

By transitioning between segments, the documentary kept the content fresh and engaging. Sections included animated scenes about history and fermentation, funny tasting segments, and even a full cooking class. All of these segments featured modern designs and visuals.

Please contact us if you are interested in viewing the documentary in full.

WHERE TO WATCH

The show launched on International Kimchi Day and can be viewed on Discovery+, Discovery Channel, AppleTV+ and Amazon Prime.
